Deadly viruses in prey, cats in risky kolkata

Kolkata: The deadly Feline parvovirus (FPV) has raged among cats in the city, killing some pet cats, especially those who have a habit outside.
According to veterinarians and pet owners in the city, many cats have developed loss of appetite, severe lethargy and weaknesses, which in some cases have developed into vomiting, bloody diarrhea and dehydration.
Because of a bad diagnosis, when this disease is found, many affected animals experienced shocks from dehydration and sepsis, often leading to sudden death.
“The FPV attacks cells that channel the small intestine and cause severe immunosuppression among cats.
Early diagnosis is very important for healing the right disease.
Some cats face victims due to diagnostic ambiguity,” said Veterinarian Subir Bhattacharya.
FPV is very contagious and spread through infected cat feces.
Cats do not need to have direct contact to spread the virus.
This can be transferred from anything that has come into contact with contaminated feces, including shoes, clothing, or other objects, such as toys, said cat experts.
“Our old cat seven months of symbu was fine until he suddenly stopped eating from 1 November and began to pass the blood mixture bench.
We took him to the veterinarian who made him tested and diagnosed it with hemorrhagic gastroenteritis and dripping.
He was in care for almost almost A week but his condition continued to deteriorate and on November 7, he fainted, “said Nishita Rakhit, instructor coding from Garia.
Doctors argue while no special treatments available for FPV, the treatment protocol varies from cases to cases depending on the type of symptoms.
It is also very important that each case is suspected of being treated in isolation.
In the absence of certain treatment protocols, doctors emphasize that FPV can be much better prevented than being treated and demanding all cats and kittens vaccinated.
“There is still reluctance among most cat lovers to get felines vaccinated.
Every kitten must be vaccinated with the CRP vaccine, which acts as a shield on diseases such as calicivirus, rhinotracheitis virus and the panleucopenia virus,” said the doctor Krishhanu Ghosh.
