Pune: Some people deceived a retired government officer at Chinchwad by 4.8 lakh rs under the pretext of hiring his son’s property by introducing himself as an army person on the online platform and sharing with the target QR code.
The fraudsters had contacted the man after he issued an ad on the online platform to rent property.
Senior Inspector Sudhakar Kate from Police Chinchwad told Tii, “After the man clicked on the QR code, he did not receive money.
On the contrary, several amounts of deducted from the bank account.
To get the money back, the man continued the scan of the QR code distributed by them and finally Loss of Rs 4.8 Lakh.
“Kate said the 28-year-old boy who filed a complainant because the money was sucked from his bank account.
Kate said the man wanted to give his son’s rental property and had placed ads on the online platform.
“On July 2, a man called him and introduced him as a military officer.
He tells him that he wants to hire property,” Kate said.
After some time, one person contacted the man and told him that his senior had decided to hire property.
He also told him that they would make payments online.
The man sent Rs 5 to the suspect, after that the last sent the QR code to the man and told him to scan so he could receive RS17,000.
“On scanning, the number is debited from a princess account.
The suspect then told the man that it was a mistake and sent another QR code.
After the man scans, more money is debited until he loses Rs 4.8 lakh,” Kate said.
