Panaji: The State Government Government needs to declare all water bodies, such as Lake Bondvol, as a protected zone and must take steps to repair damaged embankments, said Lok Sabha Moitra Lok Sabha Moitra.
Supporting agitation of construction around the lake, Moitra said that TMC would ensure that there were no construction activities carried out around protected water bodies.
TMC has accused St Cruz Mla Antonio Fernandes from supporting builders and tenants who have started construction activities in 200 m on the lake and up to the tide and lake.
“Lake Bondvol is an ecological balance of the region and over the past few years, certain people in the area are connected to local MLA and local Panchayat have claimed the lake as their rent,” said Moitra, who visited the lake along with local activists Arthuro d’Souza.
“The tenants won the land.
They claimed Tenancy throughout the lake, which was more than 90,000 square meters, although they were declared a tenant of only 550 square meters,” said D’Souza, added that Fernandes had supported tenants and builders to seize all lakes.
“If the rental rights are given only for 550 square meters, if we form the government, we will say that no one can claim the lease period on the body of the water.
Second, each license given in the 200m zone will be canceled,” Moitra said.
