‘Decoding error’ flips pass and fails in the DNB exam

New Delhi: Doctors appear for the final examination of the National Council Diplomate (DNB) Postgraduate Program in Orthopedics surprised to find that 48 student answers have been mixed in one of the four exams.
The National Examining Board (NBE), which conducts the exam, is referred to as “decoding error”.
When repaired, it caused three of them who were declared to fail earlier and someone claimed to graduate failed before.
Now some doctors want to get a copy of their answer sheet, but the time limit is one month after the results of the results of the results in which the candidates who fail to apply to the copy are over.
“Decoding error” was revealed when one of the doctors who failed to submit a photocopy of the answer sheet.
DNB does not allow for revaluation, check or recount but students who fail can request a photocopy of their answer sheet.
The exam was conducted in March 2021 and the results were stated on July 30.
On August 10, Dr.
Jitendra Kumar filed a photocopy of the sheet of the answer.
When he got it almost two months later on October 6, he found that a copy of the IV paper answer sheet belonged to someone else.
After a lot of delays and correspondence back and forth, NBE finally admitted to the mixture on November 17.
Dr.
Kumar was told that the answer sheet was mixed not only in his case but for 47 other candidates and on November 24 revised results stated.
Thus, the deadline for candidates to submit a copy of their answer sheet has passed long before NBE finally admitted the mixture.
It has caused several candidates to find a copy of their answer sheet under RTI.
NBE rejection to provide a copy of the answer sheet under RTI has been challenged before the chairman’s information commissioner.
Dr.
Kumar, who got the previous 177 mark had been revised to 189, but this was still three short marks from the pass mark.
He has submitted a case in the Delhi High Court, where he also mentions that there are wrong questions worth five signs in the fourth paper.
During the trial, NBE’s advice revealed that all students were given two values for the wrong questions.
January 27 is the next hearing date.
Meanwhile, the next examination was carried out from August 24 to 27, less than a month after the last test results were stated.
August exam results were stated on November 24.
Again, the date for the next exam is December 16, less than a month later.
Thus, in the last two exams for the last year of DNB, which saw a very low percentage of passes in specialization such as orthopedics, pediatrics, entry (ears, nose and throat) and pathology, the candidates were not given time to check their answer sheets.
In a year, NBE usually conducted two examinations, but 2021 saw three when the exam which was usually carried out in December could not be done in 2020 due to Covid and driven to March 2021.
Students who failed in the exam usually appeared again for the next one.
Responding to questions from Toi, NBE stated that the NBE examination committee was a subcommittee of three officers who were not part of the results section to review all decoding and tabulating work related to all specialties and all papers.
In RTI answered candidates who asked if the investigation was carried out, NBE answered by saying no.
“The Committee found that except in orthopedic IV paper, the signs were evaluated correctly in all other cases.
On orthopedic IV paper there are 48 errors decoding the transcription sign evaluated.
This is the result of a clerical error which is unfortunately not detected before the results declaration,” said The NBE statement added that protection was introduced to the recurrence of these errors.
