BENGALURU: A courtroom in Karnataka has led former Prime Minister H Steel Deve Gowda to pay Rs two crore as compensation into the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprises (NICE) because of his”defamatory statement” from the business in a tv interview a decade back.
The Eighth City Civil and Sessions judge Mallanagouda discovered basis from the plaint filed with the NICE, whose promoter and managing manager is Ashok Kheny, also a former Bidar South MLA.
Referring to this interview telecast with a Kannada news station below the caption”Gowdara Garjane” on June 28, 2011, the court led Deve Gowda to cover damages of Rs two crore to the business for its reduction of its reputation due to defamatory remarks he made.
The JDS supremo’s outburst was contrary to the great job and he’d called it a’loot’.
The court found that the job in question was maintained by the High Court of Karnataka and also the Supreme Court within their own conclusions.
The project undertaken by the business is a large one that can be in the larger interest of Karnataka, ” the court stated from the June 17 order.
“Thus, should defamatory statements such as the existing one are permitted to be produced at the future, undoubtedly, execution of such a large project such as the current one, that can be undertaken at the larger public interest of the State of Karnataka, will be postponed.
Thus, this court believes it is essential to curtail such statements by devoting permanent injunction against the defendant,” the court observed.
