Defending champions Thiem withdraw from the US Open

Paris: Defense Champion Dominic Thiem announced on social media on Wednesday “a difficult decision” to get out of this month the US Open after failing to restore enough from an wrist injury he was picked up at Mallorca in June.
The 27-year-old Austria, who will also lose the rest of the season 2021, said he had made a good recovery before feeling sick which was updated last week.
“It has been a difficult decision but I know this should I do,” he said.
Thiem made an unforgettable comeback in New York last year, lost the first two sets in the final before beating Alexander Zverev in five.

“Unfortunately, I have to withdraw from the US Open and will miss the remaining 2021 season,” he posted on Twitter.
“I’m really disappointed not to be able to defend the title in New York but I haven’t recovered from an wrist injury I suffer back in June at Mallorca Open.” On Sunday, the former champion of Roger Federer was also pulled out of the US.
The 40-year-old said he needed further knee operation and admitted he “will come out for months”.
