Almaty: Defense Minister Kazakh Nurlan Yermekbayev resigned on Tuesday, the office of President Kassim-Jomart Tokayev said, the days after the fire and a series of explosions in the weapons depot killed 15 soldiers and firefighters.
Dozens of people were injured by the explosion which forced the authorities to evacuate the closest settlements in the South Zhambyl Province of Kazakhstan on August 26.
The cause of the fire is still unclear.
The fire and explosion provoked public protests, especially because explosives at the commanded bases had been moved there from the facilities in the city of Arys after a similar incident in 2019 killed four people.
