New Delhi: Head of the Hindu Sushil Tiwari army has been arrested for allegedly raising slogans against the community during protests near Jantar Mantar in Delhi, police said on Saturday.
Tiwari, Lucknow’s native, was questioned on Friday night, following the arrested by him, a senior police officer said.
Two video clips have appeared, and in one of them, Tiwari was seen using dirty language and raised slogans against a community, police said.
Six people, including advocates and former BJP spokesman Ashwini Upadhyay, have been arrested in this case.
The slogans, police said, were raised during the August 8 protest organized by Bharat Jodo Andolan held near Jantar Mantar.
The previous arrest was made after firmly registered at the Connaught Place police station.
It is related to provocative sloganeering on this program, they said.
Besides Upadhyay, Preeth Singh, Deepak Singh, Deepak Kumar, Vinod Sharma and Vinit Bajpai have been arrested, police said, adding that Tiwari was the sixth to be captured in this case.
Preet Singh is the Director of ‘Save India Foundation’ while Deepak Singh, Deepak Kumar and Vinod Sharma are associated with various right-wing organizations.
Videos that showed the slogan raised against the community during protests were widely circulated on social media, after police Delhi registered a case.
Hundreds of people have attended protests held by Bharat Jodo Andolan.
Shipra Srivastava, the media is responsible for Bharat Jodo Aandolan, saying the protest was held under the leadership of Upadhyay.
However, he denied the relationship with those who raised anti-Muslim slogans.
“The protest was detained against colonial law and demanded to eliminate 222 English law.
We have seen the video, but do not know who they are.
The police must take strict action against those who raise the slogan,” said Srivastava.
Upadhyay denied his involvement.
“I have filed a complaint to Delhi police to check the video that became viral.
If the video is authentic, tight action must be taken against the people involved in it,” he said.
“If the video is fake, propaganda is being circulated to print Defame Bharart Jodo Andolan,” said Upadhyay.
