New Delhi: In November, 160 new air-conditioned buses and low floors will hit Delhi’s streets, taking the total size of the capital bus fleet to 6.910.
“Congratulations Delhi! Delhi Cabinet today is led by Arvind Kejriwal approved the offer for the low floor AC 160 buses, which will be on the road in November.
The bus fully confirms to the BS-VI standard and will have a CCTV button, GPS and panic.
With this, our bus fleet size will grow to 6.910, “Minister of Transport Kailash Gahlot tweeted on Friday.
160 buses are part of a total of 1,000 low and air-conditioned water buses that are being carried based on the cluster scheme.
Of the 1,000 buses, 311 has been operating and 89 buses are expected to arrive in March this year but delayed because of the second wave of Covid-19 cases.
Many buses are now expected to arrive next month.
Delhi has a total of 6,752 buses today, including 3,762 buses in the Delhi Transport Corporation and 2,990 fleet (DTC) in the Skrus Cluster fleet.
Delhi requires a total of 11,000 buses to meet current demand.
The exponential growth of the Covid-19 case forced the Delhi government to impose locking from April 19, which has now relaxed mostly.
However, it indeed resulted in the Delhi government’s plan to reach the target of 11,000, who continued to move, hit the brakes.
The second wave also affects electric bus delivery for the DTC fleet, along with the creation of supporting infrastructure such as the charging station on the designated bus depot.
On March 26, the Delhi Cabinet agreed to an engagement of 300 low-floor electric AC buses by DTC.
As scheduled, 118 buses arrived in October, 100 in November and 60 buses planned to be added in December, 2021.
20 remaining buses tend to arrive in January 2022.
