New Delhi: The Delhi Government has prepared 31,695 Covid beds of a total of 37,000 planned to anticipate further increases in Covid-19 cases, and plans to further increase the strength of the bed has been placed, keeping the top of the new lakh everyday case in mind.
Source said the district authorities have been asked to identify more public buildings where extra beds can be prepared if the case surge continues at the same speed.
On January 1, the number of covid beds at the hospital was 8,883, apart from 4,331 beds in the Delhi government care and health center.
The number of hospital beds occupied was 247 a month ago, and the count was 173 in the center.
In the last 10 days, the number of covid beds in the hospital has risen nearly 62% to 14,355.
The number of beds in the centers also rose by around 10% to 4,740.
Although the number of beds occupied now has risen about eight times to 1.999, still less than 14% of the total hospital bed available.
While more than 14,000 beds currently provided for Covid-19 patients, the target is 37,000 beds, where 31,695 is ready.
Most of these beds have been prepared at Delhi’s health care facilities, including 9,405 in hospitals and 13,920 in others.
The number targeted at a private hospital was 14,000 beds and everything was prepared, as was 3,775 beds intended at the central government hospital in the national capital.
On Saturday, the Delhi government added 5,650 covid beds and 2,075 ICU beds in 14 hospitals.
Apart from hospitals such as LNJP, GTB and Indira Gandhi Hospital, the number of beds at Burari Hospital increased from 400 to 800, from 200 to 600 at Ambedkar Nagar Hospital, and 100 each at Sanjay Gandhi Memorial, Acharya Shree Bhikshu , Bhagwan Mahavir, Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalaya and Shree Dada Dev Matri Avum Shishu Chikitsalaya.
“About 13,300 beds are still available.
Very few patients are accepted in this wave, but we have made arrangements in hospitals to keep the situation under control,” said Minister of Health Satyendar Jain on Saturday.
While the government has judged that more than 30,000 covid beds are ready in Delhi, 100 beds per ward can be arranged as and when needed at two weeks notice, taking total capacity to more than 64,000 beds.
The district authorities have been asked to hit public buildings such as schools and community centers to make covid care centers, if needed.
