New Delhi: A total of 99 inmates and 88 staff members in Delhi prison have been tested positive for Covid-19, officials said on Sundays.
According to data distributed by prison authorities, 99 inmates have tested the positive viral disease until January 14.
Seventeen of them had recovered while there were 82 active cases.
Of the 88 prison staff who had tested positive Covid, 14 had been restored while there were 74 active cases.
The Delhi Prisons Department includes three main prison complexes – Tihar, Rohini and Mandoli.
“There is no serious case so far.
Most cases are managed by our prison doctor,” Director General (Prisons Delhi) Sandeep Goel.
As part of the steps taken to curb the spread of diseases in the TIHAR complex, Mandoli and Rohini Prison, the prison pharmacy has turned into a Covid Care Center.
The oxygen plant will also be functional in Tihar immediately, the previous official said.
Many medical insulation cells are established for inmates that show symptoms of covid mild, they said.
Those who test positive but asymptomatic diseases will be stored in this separate insulation cell.
Hospital 120 beds in Tihar and 48-bed facilities in Mandoli have been converted into Covid Care Center.
The prison government said four committees had been formed to treat infected inmates and staff.
Social staying between staff members and prisoners is maintained as far as possible.
Most prisoners are limited to environmental programs and their awareness of the following Covid norms are being carried out regularly, officials said.
