New Delhi: Delhi has beaten cities such as London, Shanghai, Singapore, New York and Beijing with the maximum number of CCTV cameras per square mile.
Capital has 1,826.6 cameras per square miles compared to the city in second place, London, which has 1,138.5 cameras, according to data compiled by Compareech, the company researchers in cyber security, and published by Forbes India.
Chennai was in third place with 609.9 and Mumbai on the 18th with 157.4.
Comparison said data “focused primarily on public CCTVs – cameras used by government entities such as law enforcement”.
However, it added there was a “small correlation between the number of cameras and crime or public CCTV safety”.
CM Arvind Kejriwal said it was a moment of pride for the city, which appeared at the top between 150 cities.

In the next phase, 1.4 lakh cctvs are being installed.
“The CCTV install project in Delhi exemplifies Swaraj; Rwa is involved in surveying the location where CCTV must be placed, and not only the colony that is gated but all Delhi regions, including slums, are borne by the project,” said the state government.
The government says that all CCTV feeds are very safe with hardware monitored by the community and the feed can only be accessed with authorized users.
