New Delhi: New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) has submitted its proposal for phase-II cycling corridor projects, ‘cycle4change’, to traffic infrastructure and transportation infrastructure (UTTIPEC) (UTTIPEC) for supervision and approval.
The corridor will include a 10 kilometer stretch.
“This will connect the government housing colony to the office in and around the North Block, the South Block, Nirman Bhawan, the Central Secretariat and the new Moti Bagh area where the cycling path will be made for the last miles connectivity.
The plan was approved by the Governor of Lieutenant recently, “said an NDMC official.
A senior official Dda said, “Yes, we have received a proposal and it will be processed according to the Uttipec procedure.” Because there will be many roundabouts and intersections that fall on this proposed route, the Civic body will make provisions for the junction of the Zebra and other arrangements in consultation with Delhi Traffic Police to make the corridor safer for cyclists.
“To avoid confusion, we have shared plans with traffic police.
Lanes in the corridor will be a width of 6 feet and in places, the track will be put next to the path to allow a smooth cycle movement,” said NDMC officials.
The Civic’s body has also proposed to beautify stretches, mark the cycle symbols and make the roundabout and crossroads safer with the installation of safety devices, including temporary retro reflective marks / permanently.
During the phase-i project, which was launched in October 2020, the Civic body has developed a five kilometer stretch ranging from Bikaner’s house at the Indian gate to the Jor Bagh Metro Station via Lodhi Garden.
“The corridor is still operating over the weekend.
On the designated route for phase-II, two cycling stations will appear in Sunheri Bagh Mosque and Kautilya Marg.
If needed, we will develop more stations,” NDMC officials said.
Because the project will be compatible with the ongoing Vista Central Project, NDMC hopes that more and more people who visit government offices / other places in their jurisdiction will use bicycles for better connectivity.
“In addition to reducing traffic on the road, the proposal will also help people stay in a fit,” the official said.
