Delhi: January-end target for Pragati Maidan Tunnel

New Delhi: Although the Public Works Department targets the end of January for the completion of the Pragati Maidan tunnel, there is actually a serious challenge that is still blocking.
In the main, agencies cannot obtain adequate bitumen for road carpets, which without the underground road cannot be used.
According to a PWD official, when pollution in the city reached high, the authorities imposed a ban on the operation of a hot plant that produced the construction of the Bituminous road construction, which led to the lack of Process Maidan.
“We somehow get permission for one hot mixed plant in Palwal, Haryana, to function and we hold Bituminous materials from there, but not enough for the existing work,” the official said.
“It will take us more days to finish the tunnel if we cannot get more road carpet materials.
We have requested that other hot-mix factories be allowed so we can complete the work on time.” PWD previously bought bitumen from plants in Sahibad and Ghaziabad too.
Bringing macadam material from such a distance is a problem because the night temperature has dropped when a minimum temperature of 15 degrees Celsius is needed to spread the material on the road before hardening.
Covid-19 among workers is another challenge.
Two project officials fell with infection.
This project aims to cover the road around Pragati Maidan.
The road tunnel went under Pragati Maidan, began near the Indian national sports club in Purana Qila Road and ended on the other side on the ring road near the Pragati power plant.
Tunnel 1.2 km and six underpasses – five in Mathura Road and one on the Ring Road – reduce Snarls for an estimated lakh driver using the ITO intersection every day.
The Bhairon Marg section will also face fewer traffic congestion after opening this tunnel.
Two of the five underpasses in Mathura Road were near Sundar Nagar and three were between Pragati Maidan and the Supreme Court.
Underpass in Ring Road connecting it with Bhairon Marg.
