Delhi: Marathon transplant gives 12th vision in 24 hours

New Delhi: In a large training, the doctor in the center of Nanak Teacher Nanak Delhi (GNEC) recently carried out 12 corneal transplants in 24 hours.
It gives a scenic gift to 12 people who suffer from corneal blindness.
Most of them come from the lower middle or lower class families who have been waiting for Kornea’s contribution for almost six months, the doctors said.
The cornea is a transparent network that covers the eyes.
This allows the light to enter and do two-thirds of focus tasks.
For people who suffer visual losses due to non-fixed network damage, transplants are the only choice.
Dr.
Arora, Medical Director of GNEC, told TI that the corneal transplant involved a substitute for the sick cornea or scars with donor grafts.
“We have counselors posted in hospitals and at the Hospital Hospital Lok Nayak.
They try to convince the family from the deceased to donate organs, including the cornea, so the life and vision of patients who need to be saved.
With their help, we can get 15 corneas.
Between Saturday and Wednesday.
From them, 12 were used to carry out corneal transplants, “he said.
Director of GNEC said all prospective recipients were not treated at the hospital.
“We have a list of prospective recipients.
After the Cornea contribution was confirmed, we called 20 people from the list for transplants and from them, 12 people who cleaned the screening test to put aside any infection, for example Covid-19, underwent surgery on Thursday,” he explained.
A team of doctors, two consultants and four senior resident doctors work together to do 12 operations in one day.
Prior to this, Doctor GNEC said the hospital had conducted nine corneal transplants in 24 hours in 2011.
Other leading eye hospitals such as AIIMS Delhi have also carried out several corneal transplants in a day, he added.
Last year, because of a pandemic, significantly reduced corneal transplants.
According to the Bank Eye of India (Ebai) Association, between April 2019 and March 2020, namely the year before the pandemic hit the country, India conducted 27,075 corneal transplants.
Post-pandemic, between April 2020 and March 2021, this number was reduced to 12,998 roughly, a drop of almost 52%.
Dr.
Namrata Sharma, Secretary General of Honorary Ebai, who is also a professor oftalmology at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), said that one of the main reasons for a sharp decline in the corneal transplant, also referred to as eye transplantation, is the lack of corneas or eye donations.
Corneal data collection was temporarily suspended when the Covid outbreak began in March.
The corneal transplant is also postponed, he said.
More than 11 lakh people in India suffer from blindness due to corneal disorders.
To improve this, the cornea donated by a dead person is used to replace corneal disorders in patients.
“We are very grateful to the donor families who approve the donation of the cornea at a difficult time,” said Gnec Director Dr.
Arora, begging for others also advancing to donate the death of a loved one to give a scenic prize to people in need .
