New Delhi: The new reports of the central pollution control board said that the generation of biomedical waste related Covid in Delhi was reduced from 18.79 tons per day (TPD) in May to 7.68 tons per day in June due to a reduction in Covid-19 cases.
The generation of covid waste in June was the highest in Kerala at 23.71 TPD while Delhi was ranked seventh in the country.
The city currently has two general biomedical waste processing factory facilities (CBWTFS) involved in the treatment and disposal of biomedical waste.
“The generation of covid waste rose until May 10 this year because there were more patients.
However, with a decrease in the case of total Covid, the amount of covid waste was also reduced,” said an official.
The report said that in accordance with the information submitted by the State Pollution Control Board and the Daily Pollution Control Committee and Daily Data received from the Covid19BWM tracking application, the average number of generation of biomedical waste related Covid during June this year was around 164 TPD in this country.
Even though it was 203 TP until 10 May this year.
According to the CPCB report, Kerala produces a maximum covid biomedical waste in June, followed by Tamil Nadu at 26.04 TPD.
Andaman and Nicobar at 0.003 TPD and Lakshadweep at 0.01 TPD produce covid waste the lowest number in June.
“Until June, 193 of 198 CBWTFS began using tracking applications and around 13,000 Covid-19 waste generators were registered in the application,” said the report.
Delhi currently has two CBWTFs.
One of them is in Western Delhi Nilothi with an installed capacity of 28.8 tons per day and others in the industrial area near GT Karnal Road with an installed capacity of 34 TPD for waste treatment.
Of these, plants in Niloshi are currently operating on rent extensions.
The Delhi pollution control committee previously invited an expression of interest to set two additional CBWTFs in the capital but the body then canceled the tender process.
