New Delhi: Providing an opportunity for morning pedestrians to spend quality time in fertile green areas when reading books, South Delhi Municipal Corporation has implemented the concept of open library in the neighborhood park with the help of NGOs.
This concept includes building a kiosk with a roof while where books will be stored in a wooden / metal cabinet and people can get them to read in this place.
One of the libraries was inaugurated at Madhav Park at Rajouri Garden Area recently and many more would be arranged.
Chairman of the Fixed Committee of the Col (Retd) BK Oberoi said that the initiative, Sahej, was intended to help people access newspapers, magazines and books in this open library, especially in the morning when they came for fresh air.
“The idea will also benefit senior citizens, because they can enjoy reading books while absorbing the sun during the winter.
They can sit on the bench and chairs to spend quality time,” said the chairman.
This facility will open from 9am to 5pm.
Deputy Commissioner, SDMC (West Zone) Rahul Singh urged the residents of the area to donate books for open libraries.
It has a collection of 350 books like now.
“A guard and several other staff of the Horticulture Department have time 24×7 in the park to ensure the maintenance and safety of the library.
This library has been arranged with the help of the ‘Star Foundation’ NGO.
More libraries like that will be opened in the park in the West Zone,” he said.
The library opened in a park in Punjabi Park a few months ago.
“We chose the park, which had legs at least 500-600 people during the morning or evening, so that more interested pedestrians could take advantage of the facilities,” Oberoi said.
