New Delhi: With repairs to the joints of the Dhaula Kuan Rajnagar Flyover to AIims CarrieGeway finished on Thursday, work has begun in another lane and will continue for three weeks.
The Flyover serves more than 1 commuter lakh every day.
Delhi traffic police tweeted that the work of repairing the expansion connection on one carriageway from Rajnagar Flyover on the ring road was finished.
Next, the road from Dhaula Kuan to the Safdarjung Hospital was opened.
“The work will continue for the next 20 days.
As a result, traffic will only be one flyover.
AIIM to the side of Dhaula Kuan will be closed.
Vehicles and heavy buses will be transferred on the road as high along the flyover,” said a traffic official.
A senior PWD official said that repair work was being carried out gradually to minimize discomfort against commuting.
The expansion joints have not been fixed for more than five years and maintenance is needed immediately.
The expansion connection allows a continuous flow of traffic to the flyover, while accommodating movement, depreciation and temperature variations in concrete and steel structures.
The overall repair plan was submitted by PWD to Delhi police traffic in early August and it was approved in the middle of the month.
PWD also plans to make improvements in Africa Avenue Flyover in the third phase.
