New Delhi: Death due to an accident on the road saw a decline of around 20% by 2020, according to data released by the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB).
Even an accident while crossing the railway also saw a decline.
Experts say that because of locking for most years, empty roads and some fatal accidents are mostly due to excess speed.
According to data, 5,601 accidents were reported in 2019 compared to 4,187 in 2020, indicating a 25.2% decline.
Overspeeding continues to stay in number 1 behind the cause of this accident, with 1,563 cases.
In this case, 1,168 people were injured, while 523 died.
Driving is dangerous and overtaking a rash standing at number 2, with 1,805 accidents reported, and 1,599 injured and 450 dead.
Other factors are driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs and lack of road infrastructure.
A senior traffic official said that despite the number of vehicles that plying on the road fewer during locking, there was an increase in the number of challans accelerating.
“The camera system captures most of the speeding and challans cases sent to the driver’s homes,” the official said.
“People complain from several fines but there are many violations that cause accidents.
