New Delhi: After 40 years of operation, Sanjay Gandhi Animal Care Center (SGACC) in West Delhi will be temporarily closed from August 1, the former Union Minister Manka Gandhi said on Saturday.
This step came after an incident of atrocities against the animals that occurred at the shelter, where two cages of the newly rented celebrations were allegedly seen struggling with a dog, resulting in his death.
Gandhi in a statement, said there would be a total management reshuffle, with new staff to be given animal-sensitive training before being reopened.
There will also be new infrastructure for animals, he added.
The video of the dog that was being attacked into a viral on July 5, which led to animal activists questioned the treatment stacked in animals at the shelter.
Gandhi said, for the past year, SGAcc was managed shortly because Covid-19 and two newly employed veterinarians tended to dog in this matter.
He said the dog was in pain and naturally restless – biting one of the veterinarians, which in turn, responded with frightening violence, resulting in his death.
“This incident has surprised us all to the core.
I have boiled angrily and my stomach ache since I watched a terrible video.
We immediately filed firmly against veterinarians, and they had been arrested.
The doctor responsible for this section has been given Notification to go, “Gandhi said.
He added that SGAcc had shaken in his mission to provide care of animals and need to be rebuilt.
“It will be closed to rescue in the future, and existing animals will be rehabilitated.
We will rebuild this institution again – physically, and more importantly, in terms of staff.”
