New Delhi: In the first policy like that in this country, it will immediately be mandatory for the aggregator up and delivery service providers in Delhi to have an electric vehicle as a new addition to the part of the car and two-wheeled fleet.
The Delhi government announced on Saturday that it would notify the ‘aggregator policy to mandate the EV fleet’, which would make it a must for aggregators and shipping service providers to ensure that in the next three months, 10% of all new -Wheelers and 5 % of all new cars they induce to their electric fleet.
In March 2023, they must ensure that 50% of all new two wheels and 25% of all new cars are electricity.
As part of the Delhi Government EV policy, which was launched by the Chairman of the Minister of Arvind Kejriwal in August 2020, many incentives were provided to switch to electric vehicles.
The government has encouraged a taxi aggregator, a service provider of the last distance connectivity and logistics operator to make a switch.
What until now is the vision will now be a legal requirement based on the Environmental Law (Protection), 1986.
Senior officials say the final decision has been taken by CM and the concept of notifications will likely be issued on Monday.
“While the vision has been present in the EV policy, is now being given a form and has legal support under the environmental law (protection), 1986.
After the draft notification is issued, comment from the public will be invited for 60 days, before giving it a final form,” They said.
“The Delhi government, under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal, has become a pioneer in taking steps to combat air pollution.
This new policy is the first of its kind and will provide an encouragement needed to the aggregator industry to become environmentally friendly,” Minister of Environment Gopal Rai said in a statement on Saturday.
Reena Gupta, Advisory to the Minister, said the essence of the proposed policy was to ensure the entire spectrum of vehicles used by aggregators and shipping service providers was brought into folds of sustainable, clean and electrical mobility, given the large-scale impact.
The adoption of clean vehicles and serious attention to Delhi air quality.
According to sources, the number of taxis operating under the aggregator platform in the national capital is around 2.5 lakh.
If the aggregator ensures that a large number of vehicles inaugurated into their fleet are electricity, EV ecosystems in Delhi will get a main boost.
At present, electric vehicles are deployed for rental and premium services by aggregators but the amount is not high.
When contacted for comments, aggregators and shipping service providers say they prefer to wait for formal notifications.
Designed in accordance with the regulations set by Delhi 2020 Electric Vehicle Policy, the aggregator’s policy proposes incentives to ensure that the transition to EV in the industry that is under leading occurs in sequence, the government said in a statement.
To ensure that the policy has a large-scale impact in reducing vehicle emissions not only in Delhi but throughout the NCR as well, the Delhi government will also make representations to commissions for air quality management (CAQM) to direct other countries.
In the NCR area also adopted a aggregator policy to padded EV in the operational fleet to combat vehicle emissions in the region, the statement said.
