New Delhi: Vehicles have emerged as the biggest contributors to particulates pollution in Delhi.
Their real-time share of vehicle emissions in air pollution has increased to more than 50% in the early winter (October 24 to November 8) this year, said new analysis was released on Thursday by the Center for Science and the Environment.
Track the level of pollution in citycse you have analyzed real-time data about the comparative contribution of various sources to pollutants in the air city compiled by the Indian Tropical Meteorology Institute.
CSE accesses data for every alternative hours for the period of October 8 November.
Pollution sources include transportation, industrial, construction, burning waste, energy, housing sources, road dust and other source groups.
Bird stumps and pollution in all regions of the national capital are not considered.
The analysis showed vehicle pollution more than half of all sources, followed by household pollution between 12.5 and 13.5%.
The industry contributed 9.9-13.7% of pollutants, construction of 6.7-7.9%, waste burned 4.6-4.9% and road dust, 3.6-4.1%.
This indicative composition is based on trends every hour of alternative in every 24 hours of study period.
Additional CSE analysis of traffic speeds in the city – congestion size – in 15 main stretches during the study period showed that traffic congestion returned to the pre-pandemic level and correlated with the peak of pollution.
Traffic speed increased dramatically during locking in 2020.
The average travel speed now is 26 kmpj and at rush hour, 23 kmp.
In off-peak hours, it is 32 kmph.
The speed in the same period in 2019 was 23 kmps in peak hours, showing traffic accumulation has returned to the pre-covid level, the report said.
The CSE report added, “While Delhi needs to accelerate actions on all major sources of pollution, it requires an urgent action to improve integrated public transportation systems, running infrastructure and cycling, and city parking area management plans to withstand the use of vehicles.
In the absence of this reformation, Delhi Cannot enforce emergency actions to control the traffic volume during the episode of Smog.
The vehicle number explodes at 1.3 crores.
“Anumite Roy Chowdhury, Executive Director (Research and Advocacy), CSE, said,” After the closure of all coal-based power plants, expansion The use of natural gas in the industry and control on dirty fuel, vehicles have emerged as a real time of contributors among local sources of winter pollution in Delhi this year.
Transportation measures must collect strong momentum.
At the same time, the action on waste management , access to clean energy in the household and Dust control must be accelerated.
