New Delhi: A 34-year-old man from Uttar Pradesh was arrested for allegedly deceiving people with the pretext of buying furniture from them through the online goods exchange platform and then getting money deducted from their bank account using a fraud, police said on Tuesday.
Defendant Pankaj Verma, residents of Aligarh Uttar Pradesh, who are used to call sellers at OLX to buy their products and after finalizing the agreement, he sent them evil relations on their numbers which resulted in a reduction in money from their paytm account, they said.
The problem was revealed in November 2019 after a complaint was received at the police station Keshav Puram from Maya Sinha who accused that his colleague Rajiv Bodwade wanted to sell his furniture and post advertisements at OLX, police said.
In his complaint, Sinha accused his colleague to receive calls based on advertisements from unknown people who show interest in buying furniture and sending a link on WhatsApp for online payments.
Because Bodwade did not have a paytm account, Sinha clicked on the link through its Paytm account, because the RS 19,358 was deducted from the SBI bank account that was associated with Paytm.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Usha Rangnani said that during the investigation through specific cyber analysis and local intelligence, the user suspected of being a cellphone number, the Verma Pankaj was arrested from his hometown in Aligarh, up.

All of these aadhar cards have different names and addresses but the photos on all cards are Verma, he said.
The police have recovered 52 fake SIM cards from his ownership and learned that he used 15 fake Paytm accounts simultaneously on his cellphone.
Investigation revealed that Verma worked as a sales representative in a telecommunications company from 2008 to 2017, where he learned about how to activate a new SIM card.
After that, he opened the center to create documents such as Aadhar cards, PAN cards, voter ID cards, community certificates and other certificates, the officer said.
“In the process, it is used to make additional copies of the documents submitted by the customer and make more than 500 fake aadhar cards to get a SIM card to hide their identity.
