New Delhi: To promote the use of lodges in a local parking lot in the city, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) will conduct a pilot project in the parking lot in Malcha Marg.
It has been tied with a concession holder that will install boom barriers, Fastag readers, CCTV systems and other equipment to facilitate the project.
Parking lots have room for 70 vehicles.
In the NDMC area, there are 94 parking lots that are 40 run by the body of the Civic and the rest by private concession holders.
The Civic body has decided to adopt a system in 40 parking lots depending on the results of the pilot project.
“Concession holders will take two weeks to regulate the system.
After that, we will operate it for two months and based on usage and demand, we will make a decision for other parking lots,” said an NDMC official.
However, facilities to collect cash parking fees from visitors will continue to avoid discomfort for anyone, he said.
“Parking lots run by NDMC are operated manually and do not have an automated collection system in place.
This will make it easier for concession holders to regulate the Fastag reader system and other equipment here.
Consider the tag has been made mandatory by the Ministry of Transport and Highway on the toll road The whole country, system installation to reduce parking costs from this tag in a local parking lot will motivate all to use tags.
For us too, it will make everything easier because keeping a daily collection record in the parking lot will not be headache, “NDMC officials said , While adding that at least 91 percent of people have obtained a fastag in the city.
Until now, the parking lot in place of Connaught and neighboring areas was maintained and operated by private concession holders and provided space for at least 6,000 vehicles.
Parking lots in Sarojini Nagar, Yashwant Place, Khan Market, LaxMibai Nagar, etc., provide space for around 4,000 vehicles and operated by NDMC.
Officials added that the daily collection of parking lots with Fastag facilities will be updated on NDMC controls and command systems automatically and this will minimize possible errors, corruption and bring more transparency to the system.
“Every amount deducted through Fastag will soon be credited to the appointed account,” said the official.
