New Delhi: A 29-year-old woman was arrested Saturday for allegedly deceiving people on social media by posing as NRI, police said.
The police have received complaints on the cybercrime mha portal by one Dharam Raj in this matter.
The complainant said he received a request for friendship on Facebook from a girl named, Amara Gujral, and after receiving friendship requests, he began talking to him on Facebook and whatsapp.
“One day, Amara told him that he lived in England and came to Delhi.
Then, he received a call from a woman, who posed itself as a customs officer.
He stated that Amara was stopped at Mumbai airport with several valuable prizes and he needed to pay Money to release it, “said DCP (North) Sagar Singh Kalsi.
The complainant transfers Rs 34,000 to a bank account provided by fake customs officials.
Then, Amara blocked the complainant on Facebook and whatsapp.
After the probe, the defendant was arrested from rented accommodation in Tilak Nagar, police said, added that he had made at least eight Facebook and Instagram profiles fake.
The woman told the police that she had come into contact with several neighbors from Africa in her area.
They are used to cheat people through different modus operandi.
He also studied cyber fraud and deceived people on social media with the pretext of sending them expensive gifts.
He set the LYCA SIM card from the telephone number starting from +44 and made several false profiles.
