Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government will conduct restrictions in the city and corporations in the country based on the population, the administration of the city and the minister of water supply K n Nehru told the assembly on Tuesday.
“This exercise will be taken based on the population of each of the local urban agencies,” said Minister, responding to R Rajendran Aiadmk (Salem North).
Bring a special call movement to take the Development Exercise at Salem Corporation, Salem Cubuencies MLA said that the civil body was formed 27 years ago.
However, the number of wards remained at 60 and there were no restrictions carried out for years.
The population of Salem Corporation is 8.29 lakh on the 2011 census.
Now, the population has reached 9.52 lakh.
He appeals to the government to do restriction exercises.
“We have received several petitions from representatives from various municipalities and companies.
Under the government’s consideration,” Minister said.
He said that the city government and corporations with less than three lakh populations will have 52 wards.
Similarly, the number of wards will be determined based on population – 58 wards (3 lakh to4.5 population lakh), 63 wards (4.5 lakh to 6 lakh), 69 wards (6 lakh to 8 lakh), 75 wards (8 lakh to 10 lakh), 88 wards (10 lakh to 15 lakh), 100 wards (15 lakh -20 lakh), 121 wards (20 lakh to 30 lakh), 142 wards (40 lakh to 50 lakh), 180 laks (50 lakh to 60 lakh) and 200 wards (more than 60 lakh).
