New Delhi: The sequencing of the genome from the recent sample of the whole country shows that the Delta variant continues to be the dominant lineage which causes the new Covid-19 case despite strong evidence that vaccination offers a high level of protection, Indian SARS-COV2 genomic consortium (insacog ) said.
Delta variant – which has high transmission and more malignant compared to the others – contributing to the majority of clinical cases in a vaccine breakthrough (post vaccination infection) but very few cases needed inpatient, the latest study by the Indian Medical Research Board (ICMR) shows.
Only 9.8% of cases needed inpatient and death as low as 0.4%.
Underline the importance of vaccination and the need to continue the appropriate Covid behavior such as the use of masks, physical distance and hand hygiene, Insacog said: “Sustainable outbreaks throughout India are caused by deltas, vulnerable populations, and opportunities for transmission.
Public health steps for Reducing transmission and vaccination remains important.
“Even outside India, Delta remains the lineage that is the fastest growing globally responsible for several playpes, including in Southeast Asia, which shows the fastest growth in new cases globally.
However, regions with high vaccination and strong public health steps, such as Singapore, continue to do well.
Even when various mutations were seen in the UK, the US and India, the “variant of concern” (VOC) continued to be very low in India and decreased relative to Delta globally, said the consortium.
“While these mutations will be tracked and investigated, there is currently no evidence of new delta sub-genres that are more alarming than Delta,” Insacog said in his latest bulletin.
Clusters of Case containing new mutations from known clinical significance will continue to be specifically searched, he added.
Some districts in Kerala and Maharashtra saw burst in cases, while many in Rajasthan and the United States east also saw high participants.
On Tuesday, 42,015 new cases were recorded from all over the country.
Delta variant (B1617.2), who was first detected in India and now swept the Globe, representing 87% of sequential samples in May and June in India.
According to the US CDC, the variant represents 83% of Covid-19 sequential samples in America.
The latest national serological survey conducted by ICMR shows that about one third of the general population is still vulnerable to infection.
Health officials also refer to some states and districts, especially in which high participants can also cause further deployment, causing the third wave.
