Pune: Delta SARS-COV-2 variant is the main cause behind Covid-19 infection among Indian children, as with adults during the second wave of pandemic, a recent study by the Indian Medical Research Council (ICMR), The ICMR-National Institute of Virology (NIV) based in Pune, and 14 other scientific institutions in India have found.
This finding confirmed the previous study, which found Mildder’s form of Covid-19 in the majority of affected children, because symptoms were reported only about a third of patients studied, while a much lower number, 14% reported hospitalization.
However, the researchers emphasized the need for sustainable genome supervision even among the children infected with Covid-19.
This study gathers with the nose and throat from 583 Covid cases aged 0-18 years in eight Indian countries from March to June 2021.
Dr.
Samiran Panda, head of the ICMR epidemiology and infectious disease division, told TOI, “Children contracted infection during The second wave, with the 4th Covid-19 serosurvey in India showed that more than 50% of children included in the 6-17 year age group were seropositive.
Despite a large number of infected children like adults, not many of them need institutional care .
this is when all schools are still closed.
“Panda said the research was conducted to find out about the variants that cause infections among children during the second wave, which is important to understand the overall behavior of the virus in the population of children in India, given the limited research in this field so far.
Dr.
Pragya Yadav, from the NIV and members of the research team, said, “While most of the genome sequences found in the samples studied from children are delta, the other is a variant variant (VOI).
The most common genealogy is Delta, followed by Kappa, Alpha and B.1.36, were seen at 65.82%, 9.96%, 6.83% and 4.88% in the research population.
“583 Samples collected during March 2020 to June 2021 have representatives of eight states (Maharashtra, Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh Punjab and Andhra Pradesh; As well as one Region Union (Chandigarh).
Delta Lineage dominates the samples of children in Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Telangana while Kappa variants are observed in between Samples of children from Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Chandigarh.
In this study, more than half of the samples came from men and the average age of research participants was 13 years.
More than half of the patients (51.8%) belonging to the age group 1 3 years and above.
