New Delhi: Delta variant now contributed almost all Covid infections globally and virus experts witnessed their evolution, looking for signs of mutations.
According to WHO, Delta formed 99.5% of all genome sequences reported to the public database and had “outperformed” other variants in most countries.
The main exception is South America, where other variants were previously seen as possible global threats – especially Gamma, Lambda and Muchill contributing to the proportion of significant cases.
Many experts now believe that all future strains will become a delta branch.
One famous delta “grandchildren” is known as AY.4.2 and mostly concentrated in the UK, where it formed about 10% of the sorted virus samples.
