Pune: Minister of Health State Rajesh Tope told Ti on Friday that the delta-plus supervision program – and the entire genome sequencing initiative to track the variant – has been given a three-month extension.
Tope said almost 11,000 samples would be collected for genome sequencing for a period of 90 days.
“We had previously tested 3,400 samples, where 21 had returned positively for Delta-Plus variants.
Every month, 100 samples per district are being collected.
As part of our efforts to oversee the variant, supervision has been extended further,” Tope said.
He also confirmed that only one of the 21 confirmed Delta-Plus cases had been vaccinated against Covid-19.
TOPE denied several online media reports claiming that 14 Delta-Plus cases were detected in the state.
“There are only 21 cases so far in Maharashtra.
Prohibiting a 80-year-old woman who surrendered due to age-related factors and comorbidities, all other patients have recovered and at home,” Tope said.
The minister said all protocols were being followed, including tracking and contacting contacts at high risk and low patients.
“Even though the severity of Delta-Plus is still determined, there is a general perception that the virus and variant can continue to lose virulence with time.
