Colombo: Variants of Delta Coronavirus who are very transmitting rapidly spread in Sri Lanka and composed about 30 percent of new cases reported in Colombo, said health authorities on Monday, advising the government to stop restrictions on relaxing trips.

Hemattha Herath told reporters that the Delta variant was first reported in India, also spread to the southern district of Galle, and Matara, and to the North District of Jaffna and Kilinochchi.
“We have noticed that between 25-30 percent of new cases reported from Colombo are Delta variants,” said Hatath.
Health officials said that around 35 cases of Delta SARS-COV-2 variant, the virus which caused Covid-19, has been found in Sri Lanka so far.

More than 1,000 new Covid-19 infections were recorded every day, in addition to nearly 50 deaths.
The authorities have a relaxed limit that has been placed since the beginning of May.
Still inter-provincial trips remain in Limbo until 1.
August detected five Delta variants coming from Colombo on June 17.
Community health supervisors have suggested the government towards limiting the journey that loosen further.
Sri Lanka has recorded nearly 300,000 cases since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic on March 2020 with death close to 3,700.
More than 256,000 people have recovered from viruses.
