Geneva: The number of new Covid-19 cases reported last week (July 19-25) was more than 3.8 million, an increase of 8 percent compared to the previous week, UN health institutions reported on Wednesday.
The latest data from the World Health Organization (WHO) shows the “substantial” uptick in America and the Western Pacific, each of which jumps 30 percent and 25 percent.
On average about 540,000 cases are reported globally every day for the past week compared to 490,000 cases reported every Sunday.
The number of deaths reported this week increased sharply with more than 69,000 deaths, a 21 percent increase compared to the previous week.
The cumulative number of cases and deaths globally are almost 194 million and more than 4 million respectively.
Who said that for seven days, the number of new cases was reported in the United States, which saw more than half a million new infections, representing the 131 percent tricketing increase.
