Gurgaon: If the vaccination speed is currently maintained in Haryana, the supply of covishield to the vaccination site will require a significant booster shot immediately because the second dose cycle for the 18-44 population starts next week.
Vaccination for groups 18-44 starts on May 1 – Covishield has a minimum window of 84 days between two doses.
So far, 92.1 lakh total covishield doses have been managed in Haryana.
Of these, 76 lakh (82.6%) was the first dose and 16 lakh (17.4%) was the second dose.
Haryana currently has around 37,000 doses of covishield and 58,500 covaxin.
With a limited vaccine supply, it still has to be seen if Haryana will order Covishield shots only for the second dose.
In the first 15 days of May, more than 4 lakh people in the age group 18-44 got Jab Covishield in Haryana, where 53,649 were in Gurgaon.
These people will now mature for their second dose.
The state has provided more than 7.1 lakh covishield jabs in July so far – an average of almost 30,000 doses every day.
Gurgaon, meanwhile, has provided more than 1.8 doses of lakh in this period, which means around 7,760 doses per day on average.
Based on the 2011 census, the total population projected by the country is 2.9 crores.
A total of 1 dose of crore from covid vaccine (covishield, covaxin and sputnik v) has been given until now.
While 87.5 lakh has received the first dose, a little more than 21 lakh has been fully vaccinated with both doses.
49.8 doses of lakh have been given to the population of 18-44.
According to the Ministry of Health data, 16.5 lakh people in the state have received Covaxin (first dose of 11.1 lakh and the second dose of 5.4 lakh).
24,621 people have received the first dose of sputnik and 2,196 their second dose in Haryana.
Not surprisingly, the coverage of the second dose of Covaxin (32.7%) was higher than the covishield (17%) because of the gap between two less doses.
Gurgaon has given more than 17 doses of lakh so far, taking into account almost 16% of total state vaccination.
These include more than 14.4 doses of lakh covishield (first dose of 11.7 lakh and second dose of 2.7 lakh) and 2.5 lakh covaxin (1.5 lakh first dose and 96,676 second dose).
In addition, a total of 12,417 people have been inoculated with the first dose of Sputnik V, while 788 people get the second dose.
Thus, more than 21% of the population projected by Gurgaon nearly 17.5 lakh has been fully vaccinated, while 97.6% have received at least one dose.
Asked whether Haryana would only give the second dose of the covishield to inoculate the maximum recipient that will mature for their second dose after July 24, Haryana additional head secretary (health) Rajeev Arora, “We have a special vaccination site throughout Haryana for the second dose recipient.
We Don’t have a plan to limit covishield to the second dose recipient because the first dose recipient is just as important.
We cannot delay the first dose when we aim to vaccinate the maximum number of people as soon as possible.
It won’t be just for those who come for their first jab.
“Toi too Request Virender Officer Country Immunization Officers, How Haryana plans to manage stable vaccination with limited supply of current doses.
“Supply will be simplified and down in two-three days.
We will get 2.5 lakh covidshield doses within two days and we will distribute it to the district immediately,” he said.
