Demand for Goa will power multiply in the next 15 years: Teri

PANAJI: The Institute of Energy and Resources (Teri) said that power demand in Goa has increased steadily over the past six years, and is expected to multiply over the coming decade and half.
Per capita power consumption in Goa almost doubled the national average, Teri was found in a recent study.
The Institute added that despite reaching 100% electrification, various challenges continued to inhibit the efforts of state in ensuring supply of 24×7 for all citizens.
The Institute stated that it was important not only to fulfill demand for strength that continued to increase, but also to progressively increase the share of renewable energy (return) to achieve overall energy security.
In detailed studies to identify strategies for ‘greening the sector and improve the reliability of the power supply’, it is also said to be important to fulfill the renewable purchase obligation according to the target set by the own electricity regulatory commission (JERC) over time.
Teri also identifies strategies to ensure reliable power supply, which includes the spread of Smart Grid technology for load management and peak extermination, promotion of consumer side demand management interventions, increasing transmission and distribution networks, and increases local generation through renewable energy sources.
“The importance of reliable forces for economic growth cannot be overwritten too high, because the economy becomes increasingly dependent on electricity for everything,” said Associate Director of Teri Narayankumar Sreekumar.
“This study shows advanced ways to improve the quality and reliability of the power supply and the reforestation of the electricity sector for the country of Goa, which will be very valuable for policy makers in determining the need for additional investment and identifying the combination of suitable resources to meet the increasing demand for state power.” Step -The signal management side management is important including the adoption of energy-saving equipment acceleration among consumers, and conducting comprehensive load research and study of integrated resource planning over time.
It is also important to ensure the modernization of the Grid using Smart Grid technology as an efficient efficient distribution network to maintain a reliable power supply, the study.
There is a need for long-term strategies based on the effectiveness and availability of costs to increase the ‘green’ energy section in the supply mixture, he said.
