Gurgaon: greater than 1,000 licensed societal wellbeing activists (Asha) from town failed to combine perform Monday in support of their strike called to protest against the authorities for not supplying them with security kits, wages and insurance policy guaranteed annually. Aside from requesting timely payment of wages the frontline employees also demanded Rs 1,000 as per month Covid-19 allowance which has been guaranteed to them. The protesters alleged that if the government has made many groups in paper, in fact, it’s that the Asha and anganwadi employees that are doing the majority of the job, such as running door-to-door polls, handling vaccination websites, gathering samples for Covid evaluations and supervising isolation centers. “We’ve resorted to the health division many days stating that we cannot carry out technical jobs and we want advice from trained healthcare team members to perform this type of work. But nothing was done. We’re working around the clock without payment. Every time we increase our requirements, we’re abused and occasionally even plagued,” said Meera Devi, district leader, Asha Workers’ Union. Even the protesters have alleged that regardless of the guarantee to provide Rs 50 lakh below the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan bundle, not just one deceased Asha employee’s household has the sum. “At least Asha employees have died here on Covid obligation but not one of the households have no reimbursement. We have not obtained the Rs 1,000 yearly Covid-19 allowance which has been guaranteed to us annually,” Meera Devi additional.
