WASHINGTON: Democrats of the US Senate on Tuesday launched a new version of the election reform bill which is the top priority of President Joe Biden, in the midst of the Republican legislative wave that imposes the limitation of voting.
Senator Amy Klobuchar and seven Democrats, including moderate like Joe Manchin, introduced the bill, which will set a national standard to take part in the election.
Democratic senators say their bills, dub “the freedom to choose action,” will ensure that all qualified voters can request mail-in ballots and have at least 15 early voting days.
The law will also allow people to register to vote until the election day, which will be a national holiday.
“After the 2020 election where more Americans voted than before, we have seen an unprecedented attack on our democracy in countries throughout the country,” Senators said in a statement.
Michael Waldman, the central president of the non-partisan Brennan for justice in New York University, said the new law “gave a strong new momentum to struggle to protect democracy.” The majority leader of the Senate Chuck Schumer, a Democrat, said he would soon schedule voting and open the door to Republican input while.
Noting that the Democrats won the White House and controlled the Senate in the last election, Schumer said the Republican Party in several state legislatures now “trying to stop people who do not choose them from voting.” But with the Republican Party in Congress accused the Democrats from “Power Grab” which will rob their ability to deal with election rules, laws face difficult battles in the Senate, which is divided by 50-50 between the two parties.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott said the law would make it “more difficult for people to cheat in the ballot box.” If the Republican Party refuses to provide the necessary support in the Senate for the bill to remove the 60-sound threshold, some Democrats are expected to urge Schumer to engrave exclusion for filibuster rules so that only most of the Senate seats are needed for parts.
