Ahmedabad: The state government on Thursday began to cleanse the Sabarmati Ashram Precinct from the building whose ownership had obtained.
Of the many properties in Thakorvas in the project project area, 14 families are still on the negotiation table.
Demolition of the property is carried out after the “Coordination Committee” consisting of the Ahmedabad collector and three representatives of the ashram prisoners approve clearing the site.
“In the next two weeks, these 14 families will also move after alternative arrangements made,” said a senior Nodal Officer of the Gandhi Ashram Memorial and Precinct Development Project Project.
The project aims to develop “world-class warnings”, with the state government began to obtain property and compensate for its owners, which has become a resident of the Ashram for several generations.
To accelerate the work of population rehabilitation, the authorities have established the Coordination Committee.
There are around 200 families in the area, the majority of them come from the SC community, whose ancestors have settled in Ashram after 1917.
The government of the country has allocated 1,246 crore rs for the project, which will take the ashram complex in its status in 1948, when Bapu was killed .
According to the plan, the country aims to integrate 35 hectares of Ashram Campus, which accommodates 63 heritage properties established during Gandhi.
The plan is to unite all the original structures on one campus.
At present, campuses are spread in several parts managed by different beliefs.
