‘Den-v2 dengue dominant in Gujarat’

Ahmedabad: One of the largest dengue virus surveys carried out by the National Institute of Virology, Pune across 60 districts in this country has revealed the dominance of DENV-2 virus serotypes in big cities and Gujarat cities.
There are four dengue virus serotypes – DENV-1, DENV-2, DENV-3 and DENV-4.
NIV has analyzed 4,963 samples to reveal the dominant dengue virus serotypes for each state.
The study also revealed Gujarat also had the second highest infection instance of several dengue virus infections in one individual in 29% of the total sample tested.
This research was published on August 21 in international journals of infectious diseases.
“We have seen that DENV-2 and Den V-3 are serotypes that are generally proven to be troublesome if ignored.
Most of the complications are seen in DENN-2 infection, especially if the immunity of the person is low,” said a senior health official Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) .
The NIV study noted that DENV-2 was the most common serotype in Gujarat State, Andhra Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Puducherry, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu Telangana and Uttar Pradesh.
“Close to 56% of the samples tested from Gujarat showed the prevalence of DENV 2 virus,” Claim this research.
DenV-3 is dominant in Haryana, and Madhya Pradesh.
DenV-4 domination was observed in the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago.
The study also revealed that DENV-1 and DENV-2 were dominant shared in Punjab while DENV-1 and DENV-3 were dominant in Maharashtra.
“Some more prominent serotype infections in the sample tested from Andhra Pradesh, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Telangana, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal,” added research.
In observational records, the NIV study claims that DenV-1 is dominant in Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka, and Nagaland, while in Gujarat there are only 9% of cases that report serotypes.
Officials added that the survey began in 2018 and that 118 medical college level laboratories, 86 state levels and 22 regional level laboratories were involved in collection of samples.
“This study is very important ahead of the development of vaccines for dengue fever.
This study has rested because of Covid,” said AMC senior official who was aware of the Dengue NIV study.
