Dengue case under the radar in the Madurai district

Madurai: Health officials in Madurai Regency intensified the steps of dengue prevention because more number of cases have been reported compared to 2020 and cases usually reach the peak of October and November.
This year, so far, a total of 291 dengue cases have been reported, where 18 was recorded in September and October.
“There are cases of dengue fever reported but are not worrying.
We have intensified the controls and precautions in the field based on the case of reported fever even if it was not a dengue fever.
Surveillance fever is closely monitored but there is no abnormal increase in fever cases too,” said a health official.
At the Rajaji Government Hospital (GRH), of a total of 33 cases of dengue fever, 10 had been treated in September and October.

Usually in October, we see the increase in cases of dengue fever but after 2018, dengue deployment is largely controlled in Madurai.

Of the 291 cases of dengue fever this year, 161 are in a corporate area while 130 are in rural areas.
“The case of dengue fever tends to look up depending on the rain of the monsoon.

The increase in this year’s case was mainly because the case of dengue fever in 2020 the rainy season peaked only in December and January 2021,” said Health Officer.
