Nagpur: After the number of dengue cases dropped dramatically last year, viral fever returned and this time more in the pediatric population.
The leading children’s hospitals in the city, where the Pediatric intensive care unit (Picus) is available, has recorded regular revenues in the last three weeks.
The increasing number of children, especially the younger age group, was ruled in hospitals after reporting a serious decline in their platelet counts.
Fortunately, dengue in children can mostly be managed in hospitals and mortality can be ignored, said caring for a doctor.
“There is an unusual surge in the number of children with dengue fever this year,” said Senior Pediatrician Dr.
Vasant Khalatkar.
“We also observe that platelet counts decrease rapidly and to lower levels than often.
If it falls below 1 lakh, patients are advised to be accepted,” he said.
Children’s ward in the Government of Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) also received a large number of patients with dengue fever.
According to the doctor there, more than 5 years of patients are in number.
“It is difficult for these children to protect themselves from mosquitoes, so they are infected.
If tested at the right time, most of them recover without platelet supply,” said a senior doctor in the ward.
According to the doctor, poor control in mosquito breeding and neglecting even in front of the family has resulted in a surge.
The NMC action on mosquito breeding began this time.
Weather fluctuations from May-end, moisture and rain have also contributed a lot to mosquito breeding.
Children are mostly indoors due to lockdown and school closure.
However, they are increasingly infected which shows that family members have also ignored pre-monsoon cleanliness measures.
Air conditioning is one of the most common sources of dengue mosquitoes, the doctor said.
The Pediatricians (AOP) Academy of Nagpur President Dr.
Vijay Dhote said that cases came from all parts of the city.

AOP members of all parts of the city see more patients with symptoms of dengue fever.
High-grade fever for a long time, abdominal pain, vomiting, rash, swelling etc.
are initial signs that parents should not overlook, “He said.
The doctor also observed that some parents were proactive in doing dengue tests.
“Some vigilant parents make their children tested with bloody fever and then take them to the hospital.
