Dengue spread fast, platelets, lack of blood components hitting hompons

Nagpur: With the case of dengue fever on the increase, blood banks have begun to face the lack of platelet components.
The lack of blood and blood component donations during the locking phase is one of the main causes of this shortcoming.
Second, just choose a blood bank that has a component separation unit to retrieve platelets.
The hospital that cares for dengue fever patients has recorded an increase in demand and difficulties in getting platelets.
This lack can be serious if the case of dengue fever continues to increase at the current speed.
“Our platelet requirements increased last week.
It becomes difficult to get platelets on time from the blood bank.
In general, we ask a single donor platelet (SDP), which gives better results.
However, the bank found it difficult to provide SDS,” said Dr.
Nitin Shinde, specialist infectious diseases.
Dr.
Sohal Parate’s critical care specialist said Dengue was more common in the child’s population this time.
“Thrombocyte requirements are limited but may increase in the coming days.
Blood banks provide platelets based on the basis of replacement donors.
However, patients who need to immediately get platelets,” he said.
At the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), there is a sharp increase in the request of platelet components but the GMCH Blood Bank has managed to provide at least until Sunday.
Another blood bank in the city faces testing time.
Dr.
Shella Mundhada from Jeevan Jyoti Blood Bank said the request had risen.
“The case of dengue fever in two years is high so more platelet demand.
Voluntary blood contributions and component contributions must be promoted in this testing time,” he said.
Dr.
Mundhada also appealed to dengue fever patients not to wait long and immediately tested so they did not need platelets.
Ashok Patki, Secretary of Dr.
Hegdewar Blood Bank, said they had to call voluntary donors more often in the past two weeks.
“Fortunately, we have a large donor database.
Thanks donations are regular activities for our bank because we are attached to the leading cancer hospitals in the city.
We strive to get sdps preferred, because they are good for patients,” said Patki.
The only solution to the current crisis and in the future is a voluntary donation, said Dr.
Harish Warbhe from Lifeline Blood Bank.
“Because platelet demand rises sharply, we need more platelet donors to advance.
This is scientifically safer to have platelets from voluntary donors than a substitute for donors,” he said.
