Ahmedabad: Category 2B Heritage Haveli Bearing Tag UNESCO has been destroyed just below the AMC nose in the Kalupur area.
The razing process has been going on for the past two weeks.
What is surprising is that the AMC City Development Department continues to deny that Haveli Wood has to do with inheritance.
The department does not have information about UNESCO building status.
When the building was destroyed, the AMC blue legacy tag hung on the wall.
A Kalupur resident, Saumil Rajpara, recently submitted a RTI application with the Central Zone office on the status of the House Survey Number 4380.
It was a two-storey wood Haveli in Doshiwada Ni Pol at Kalupur.
The AMC City Development Officer (Heritage) Vipul Rabari responded in a letter dated September 14 that the Municipal Corporation did not have information about the building.
Rajpara has taken photo photos and also ‘legacy tags’ installed by AMC and send them to Rabari.
But there is no response.
“It is very sad that the UNESCO heritage building listed has been destroyed right under AMC’s nose,” Rajpara said.
“When the UNESCO team came for inspection, it would be a big setback for the city.
The city has lost many legacy buildings registered in Khadia and Kalapur.
AMC must conduct an audit of its own list.”
