Trichy: Chennai-based Bharatyatyam dancer raised complaints about allegedly rejected into the Temple of Rangathaswamy in Srirangam to offer prayers.
Zakir Hussain, recipient of the Kaimamani government award, said an individual had stopped him on Saturday afternoon based on his birth religion.
“I have been to Srirangam’s temple several times, but this is the first time I have faced such an insult on the basis of my religion even though I believe in Vaishnivm.
A man named Rangarajan Narasimhan, who has no position in the temple management, stopped me before several other worshipers , “Hussain said in his complaint to the Trichy Police Commissioner.
Dancers added that he was hospitalized for a short time due to stress and insulting the incident.
