New York: Canada Denis Shapovalov presents 14 Aces to facilitate the work of Federico Delbonis Argentina and won 6-2 6-2 6-3 in the first round M.
Open on Tuesday.
The seventh seed was a break after the fifth match in the first set and adhering to momentum, firing 38 winners to Delbonis’s 11 in all matches and won 90% of their first points.
Shapovalov has never faced a break point and is a full favorite of the crowd at the Louis Armstrong Stadium, which shouted “Come on Shapo” late in the third set of stands that sit empty a year ago when he reached the quarter-finals for the first time on a flushing meadow.
The victory flicked the four-match successive defeat for number 10 world, which fell to the Grand Slam winner 20 times Novak Djokovic in the Wimbledon semi-finals earlier this year before bouncing from the opening match in Gstaad, and Toronto and Cincinnati Master.
