Patna: Following the concept of street vehicle carrying capacity, the State Transportation Department will map public vehicle routes such as autorickshaw, e-rickshaw and buses for faster mobility and to free the choking road and improve air quality.
Initially it would be implemented in Patna and neighboring areas such as Danapur, Khagaul and Phulwarisharif.
The department is developing software to help decide on routes for public vehicles through a geographic information system (GIS).
Transportation officials have started a manual survey for planning urban public transportation routes, which includes the number of public vehicles, routes that are plying vehicles, patterns of travel requests and explore new routes.
Transportation Secretary Sanjay Kumar Agarwal said the number of public vehicles has increased in the state capital, causing large traffic congestion on several routes and enhancing air pollution.
“To set the volume of traffic and rush on several roads, the department will hit the autorickshaws route, e-becak and even the bus, based on a survey report.
We will hold meetings with all stakeholders, including the Association of Public Transport and Members of the Environmental Council to examine vehicle requirements public, “he said.
Agarwal said there was a surplus of autorickshaws on several routes such as Patna Junction and Gandhi Maidan while the big deficit in public transportation services continued in several regions.
“As per the number of public vehicles, we will plan routes for autorickshaws, e-rickshaws and buses and how many vehicles that will be run on each route will depend on the power of the vehicle that carries the vehicle,” he said.
“The department will issue permits to new vehicles with the route mentioned while the old vehicle will be downdosed.
After this is implemented, all details about autorickshaw, e-rickshaw and buses, including contact numbers and driver names, will be available on one click.
This will also help Track the vehicle if there is any emergency situation, “he added.
