GURUGRAM/ROHTAK: Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim was taken to Gurugram’s Medanta hospital under heavy police security on Sunday, where he tested positive for Covid-19.
Sources said the dera chief reached the hospital around 4pm after complaints of a stomach infection.
Before his admission, hospital authorities conducted the mandatory Covid-19 test and he was found to be positive.
He was then admitted to the Covid-19 ward on the ninth floor.
The convicted dera chief ’s ailing mother Naseeb Kaur has been getting in-patient treatment in the same hospital since last year.
Last month, he was given one-day emergency parole to meet her after he was given permission on October 24 last year for the same.
Gurmeet Ram Rahim — at present imprisoned in Rohtak’s Sunaria jail after his conviction in cases of rape and murder — was taken at around 10 am to the Gurugram hospital.
Notably, he had complained of health issues and was initially taken to the PGIMS, Rohtak for treatment.
On Sunday, it was the fourth time that he was taken out of jail in view of health issues.
He had complained of health issues and based on the directions of the medical board, he was taken to PGIMS, Rohtak.
Some tests were conducted there but some more tests were required to diagnose his problem, so the doctors at PGIMS Rohtak recommended he be sent to Medanta.
A jail official, on condition of anonymity, said that they had sent Gurmeet Ram Rahim chief to the Gurugram hospital for tests as per directions of the medical board and the directions were issued to take him to the Gurugram hospital for the tests.
He was supposed to return only after all the tests are done on him, the official said.
A special court in August 2017 had sentenced Ram Rahim to 20-year imprisonment for raping two women, he was sentenced to 10 years each for the two cases.
The terms would run consecutively.
In January 2019, he along with and three others was sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a journalist over16 years ago.
