Mumbai: With the addition of more than 12,000 cases on Monday, the active case in the country ran past 50,000 on Monday from around 7,000 to mid-December.
Everyday cases in Maharashtra and Mumbai increased by more than two hundred one hundred each even on Monday, when the level is usually much lower due to testing and delay in updating numbers during the weekend.
The state added 12,160 cases and 11 deaths on Monday, while Mumbai reported 7,928 cases and two deaths.
Cumulative tally in the state rose to 67.1 lakh and Mumbai from Mumbai across 8 lakh-mark.
Suresh Kakani, Supplementary City Commissioner, said the city reported 8,082 cases (according to BMC reports), but up to 90% did not show symptoms.
While 574 was hospitalized, 71 in oxygen support.
“Bed housing is 12% but we are preparing all the Jumbos to function optimally,” Kakani said.
The Jumbo Center has been asked to provide a date when they will fully function.
Kakani said up to 92% of cases reported from Highriss.
The slums have not started contributing in a big way, he said.
Dr.
Mangala Gomare, BMC executive health worker, said it was not that fewer tests in the slums.
“Like and when people get symptoms, they are being tested.
Contact search is also done carefully,” he added.
A member of the Covid State Task Force said the city must prepare a large wave of cases and ICU receipts.
“Even if omicrons are seen with mild symptoms, deltas and their lineages are still circulating,” said the member.
Dr.
Neelam Andrade, the Dean of Nesco Jumbo Center, said they had several people walking with low oxygen saturation levels.
“It is important for people tested earlier and consulting with doctors.
With Delta around, the possibility of severe disease has not been fully lost,” he said.
State officials have directed all districts to ensure the isolation beds are stored and trained medical staff employed earlier.
