Rohtak: Many are said about the lack of sports facilities in Haryana, maybe as many sports talents.
From the gold medalist Olympics Neeraj Chopra to Ravi Dahiya’s wrestlers and Bajrang Poonia, each won the Olympic silver and bronze medal, all began their journey from the interior of Haryana, and worked well with victory.
Despite the lack of institutional assistance, for example, Dahiya, a resident of Nahari Village in Sonipat, and Poonia, a resident of Khudan Village in Jhajjar, moved to Delhi due to lack of infrastructure in their village.
Both of them train at the Chhatrasal Stadium in Delhi, while their parents will travel by bus to bring them butter, ghee and milk from their village.
At the Rajiv Gandhi sports stadium, no coach, no sports equipment that thinks everything will change after the Olympics, but forget many other villages, when it comes to infrastructure, nothing has changed even in Dahiya and Poonia villages, despite the fact that winning The Olympics have hundreds of beginner wrestlers who dream of international success and are willing to work as hard as they need to reach there.
With the government just woke up when the medal came, the responsibilities of developing infra sports seemed to have fallen on the shoulder of individuals – Dahiya recently announced he would donate Rs 15 Lakh so that the wrestler in his village did not have to face the difficulties he had in the early days .
A non-complete stadium in Sakshi Malik Namerakesh Dahiya, his father, said there was no right stadium or sports facilities in their village, forcing career-oriented sportsmen to rush to Delhi.
“The Ravi medal can bring some rest to young players because the Haryana government has announced several sports facilities in our village,” he added.
Mintu Pehalwan Village Khudan, member of the Olympic Bronze Meonist Poonia family, said in his village there was a stadium, but there were no real facilities.
“In the stadium, there is no right gymnasium or other facilities.
It is not even maintained properly.
Because of the pressure from the beginner’s sportsmen, the village of Panchayat regulates light, water, and other facilities at their own level.
The state government has no role in it, “He added.
Thick bushes are planted at the Rajiv Gandhi Sports Stadium in Karontha District Rohtak Village.
Joginder Sharma, Panchera from Khandra Village in Panipat District, the original village of Chopra gold medal, said there were no government facilities in their village too.
“We don’t have facilities like stadiums like now.
Those who want to focus on sports, have to take 15 km to the city of Panipat,” he said.
But now Chopra has won gold, the village hopes that the government will develop sports facilities here, he added.
Sakshi Malik Stadium is incomplete.
The seriousness of the Government Haryana towards the development of state sports infrastructure can be measured from the half-finished Sakshi Malik Stadium.
When Malik won a medal in Rio Olympic, the Haryana government jumped to the bustle celebration with the promise of the stadium on behalf of Malik in his home village, Mokhra, in the Rohtak district.
The stadium hit a block of roads and now, even after more than four years, it remains incomplete and fighting for funds.
Ram Kishan Mokhra, a village resident who oversees the construction of the stadium, said it should be built in 2016 but the Government of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) forgot about it after the announcement.
“When we continued to fix it, the BJP-Jannayak Janata Party (JJP) began to do it at a speed of snail after power in 2019.
But now because the contractor’s payment is not paid, the work is back to stop.” He added.
SPORTS DEPT DEPT Department of Sports Deputy Director Sunita Khatri told TI that the department had plans to improve facilities at grassroots, but delayed due to Covid-19.
“Sandeep Singh’s sports minister has promised 400 sports nurseries in the state to arrest talent at the young stage,” he said.
At the delay in the Sakshi Malik Olympic bronze medal stadium in Mokhra Village, he said the department had issued Rs 5 Crore to the PWD department but they had not spent it yet.
They have sent reminders to spend the number and build the stadium as early as possible, he added.
The sports stadium in the villages, he said the department was in the process of taking control of all stadiums from Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran and provided coaches and other facilities there.
