Chennai: Chairman of the Minister of Tamil Nadu M St Stalin on Thursday wrote to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to refer to Chennai as the Hajj embarkation point.
The Indian Hajj Committee, which came under the Minority Ministry, excluded Chennai from the list of embarkation points in 2019.
After this, pilgrims from Tamil Nadu were assigned to ride flights from Kochi, which is about 700 km from Chennai.
It caused discomfort for pilgrimage pilgrims, CM said in the letter.
In 2019, more than 4,500 pilgrims from Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andaman Islands and Nicobar rose from Chennai Airport, he said.
Stalin stated that he had received several representations to refuse Chennai as an embarkation point.
