WASHINGTON: Led by Congressman Carolyn B Maloney from New York, MPs on Wednesday announced that the bill had been introduced at the House of Representatives to declare Diwali, a lights festival, federal vacation.
“I am very, very happy and eager to introduce the Deepavali Day law this week with members of the Indian Congress Congress, who will perpetuate the law as a federal holiday,” Maloney said at an event at US Capitol.
This historic legislation was sponsored together by a number of parliamentarians including members of the Indian-American Congress King Krishnamoorthi.
Krishnamoorthi has also introduced a resolution at the US Congress that recognizes the significance of religious and historical Diwali.
Maloney said that Diwali this year symbolized the nation’s sustainable trip from the darkness of Covid-19.
“I am very proud to celebrate the victory of light from darkness, the victory of kindness over crime and pursue knowledge of ignorance as we do every day.
It is appropriate that this year it symbolizes the sustainable journey of our nation’s darkness of Covid-19 and the terrible effect that Democrats depend on People in our country, “he said.
“The celebration like Diwali talks with the core of what we all desire for our nation to become a flare with happiness, healing, learning and light and uncertain time.
My colleagues, Indian-American community leaders and I believe that there is no better time For Enshrine Diwali as a federal vacation than behind this terrible dark pandemic, “Maloney said.
Strong Congressman Gregory Meeks, Chair of the Home Affairs Committee, supported the law.
“This is something that must be shared with all of us in American society.
It’s a good day, because we talk about light over darkness.
And that’s what this is,” said Meek.
The DPR’s foreign affairs committee will support this and advocate and move forward with this big bill, he said.
Krishnamoorthi said: “On this Diwali holiday, we must say, be the light you want to see in the world.
Be light in your community needed to get rid of darkness.
Be light in this community that brings hope to despair.
Let’s be a light Which helps the last, at least and the last.
“” That’s what will be done in Diwali.
And that’s why Diwali needs a federal vacation, “Krishnamoorthi said, adding that Diwali was also about celebrating India-America.
